What to Do the Summer Before College

For many recent graduates, summer has officially begun! This is your final summer before you head off to college, possibly away from your friends and family. It is very important that you cherish the tine that you have with your friends this summer because this time next year, who know’s if you’ll all be back in town!

One Take A Trip: Take a trip with some friends, even if it’s to a nearby place for a day trip! After this summer, you and/or your friends may have jobs or won’t be back in town at the same time so you won’t be able to do this. It’ll definitely be a time to remember and a great way to say goodbye to your friends before heading off to college.

Two Read: It never hurts to just relax by the pool and dive into a great book! Reading helps keep an active imagination and if you find the right books to read, you can spend an entire day just relaxing and getting some you time. Plus, you’ll have to read in college so you might as well start now! {I actually had to read a book before my semester started.}

Three Prepare for Move In: You can never be too prepared, move in can be very stressful and if you start early, you won’t feel like you have to rush to get ready {like I did, kind of}. Even if it is just ordering your bedding right now, it doesn’t hurt to get a head start.

Four Family Vacation: Family vacations can be very relaxing and rewarding. Depending on how far you go, you may not see your family for months so taking a family vacation can really give you some much needed bonding before leaving for college.

Five Get Ready for Orientation: Orientation is a great time, but you do have to prepare for it. Orientation is a day-long procedure and many things happen; including making your schedule for your very first semester! Your school should tell you what you need for orientation; so make sure you have it and make sure your travel plans are together!

Six Summer Homework: As I mentioned under “Read” I actually had some summer homework that I needed to do. Once you find out about this homework, start it immediately. Do not wait until you actually get to school because when you get to school there are going to be so many events that you will be attending, you won’t have time to do it. I know it isn’t the most fun thing to do, but it’ll help you start off on the right foot.
