The Best Bullet Journal Supplies

The Best Bullet Journal Supplies

Hey there! Bullet journaling is one of my favorite creative outlets and hobbies. When you look to get started in bullet journaling, it can seem overwhelming to know where to start. I’m sharing the best bullet journal supplies whether you’re a beginner, or a pro!

Most of these items are from Amazon, they are a good spot to look for bullet journal supplies. Most of my bullet journal supplies came from Amazon, besides my washi tape.

Notebooks

The notebook is one of the most important aspects of the bullet journal. It’s literally the foundation of the process! You want to make sure that your journal is a sturdy one that’s not going to break down on you, but also that it has premium and thick paper. The thicker the paper means less ghosting and bleeding. Bleeding is really what you want to avoid in your journal, where the pen bleeds through. Ghosting is where you can see the pen marks on the other side, but the ink didn’t actually bleed through the paper. I personally don’t mind ghosting as much, but some people don’t want anything. Paper that is 100gsm thickness will prevent bleeding, but not ghosting, where journals with 160gsm will prevent both.

Some of my top recommendations for journals are the Scribbles That Matter A5 Dot journal and the Lemome A5 Dotted Journal. I currently use a STM journal and it has 115gsm paper. It ghosts a little bit with my Staedtler pens, but not too bad. STM recently upped their paper thickness to a 160gsm quality. As soon as I finish my current journal, I’m excited to try the thicker paper! I personally haven’t tried a Lemome journal, but in the bullet journal groups I’m in, they are very highly regarded for their paper quality.

Pens

Now pens can also play a part in the ghosting/bleeding, but pens are also pretty personal. Some people want a fineliner pen, some want a little bit more of a broad stroke, some want gel, and some want a ballpoint. Pens really are personal. There are many pens on the market that bullet journalers like to use. Some of the top brands that are floating around are Papermate, Staedtler, Zebra, Tombow.

Some of my top recommendations for pens are Sakura Pigma Microns, Scribbles That Matter Dual Brush Pens, Tombow Fudenosuke Pens, Crayola Super Tips Markers, Zebra Mildliners. I use the Sakura Pigma Micron pens to do my spreads, for all of the lines. I use the 05 thickness, I think it creates the perfect line.

Washi

Washi is something I use more sparingly in my journal this year. I use it more for the monthly cover pages and then I use it around the perimeter of the pages. But, that doesn’t mean I don’t love beautiful washi! My favorite washi shop is Simply Gilded. She is based in Dallas, Texas and has beautiful washi tapes. Her most well-known design is her iconic bow design, however, she has branched out to a gorgeous stardust design. The second shop that I like to get some washi from is PacaPost. PacaPost is based in Hong Kong, but their regular sale washi ships pretty fast! I don’t have many tapes from them, but what I do have I really do like!

Tools

I believe that tools are the most useful items in bullet journaling. The reason that many people decide not to bullet journal is that they believe they aren’t artistic enough to make the beautiful spreads they see on Instagram. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t journal. You don’t have to free-hand draw all of your spreads. I like to use stencils, guides, and rulers to help me make my spreads.

My top recommended tools to help make your beautiful spreads are this 20 Piece Stencil Set, We R Memory Keepers Journal Guide, Helix Circle Maker, and the Helix 6in Ruler.

These just scrape the surface of bullet journal supplies. There are so many brands of notebooks, pens, washi, stickers, and more! The possibilities are endless when it comes to supplies.
