Why I Use a Bullet Journal

Hey lovelies! Today I wanted to talk about something that I started doing in October. I started using a bullet journal! I’ve been really enjoying it and wanted to share with you why I started using a bullet journal and what it has done for me over the past several months.

So why do I use a bullet journal?

I use a bullet journal because I don’t think that any traditional planners really fit me and what I need in a planner. I’m someone who likes to plan things in advance, and that I need to have things written down for me to remember. If I don’t write it down, then I won’t always remember to do it. So, I know that I am a person that needs to have a planner.

After some time with my Happy Planner, I was finding that it wasn’t working for me. Although I liked how the columns were broken up, it was too big to carry around for what I was using it for. Although I loved putting stickers and sets in my planner and looking at all of the other planners and their spreads, it became too much. I wasn’t really using my planner productively, I needed a change. I had heard of a bullet journal and searched Pinterest and Instagram. It looked like it was something that could help me stay creative since I would make the spreads myself.

So, after looking at Pinterest and Instagram, I bought myself a Moleskine Dotted Journal and started bullet journaling in October 2016. I looked at what kind of things I want to track, what I want to do with my journal, and how it can help me stay creative.

Here’s what I have in my bullet journal:

  • Future Log
  • 2016/2017 Year at a Glance
  • Monthly Spreads
  • Weekly Spreads
  • Monthly Habit Trackers
  • Monthly Blog Pages
  • Monthly Memories
  • Year in Pixels 2017
  • New Year, New Blog Pages
  • 2017 Goals

Those are the sections that I have in my bullet journal. Right now, those are the things that help me keep my life on track. However, with those spreads, I can design them however I like which is what I was really looking forward to with bullet journaling. Recently, I had been feeling like creativity had been really lacking in my life, and that was really starting to affect me. I love, and always have loved, being creative. So I wanted to find something that would allow me to be creative.

One of my favorite things about my bullet journal is that it is customizable to me and what I need, and my creativity level. Bullet journaling allows me to express my creativity in my spreads and experiment with new things to help me stay productive and on top of things.

Over the past several months, I’ve really enjoyed bullet journaling. If it’s something you’ve been looking into, I definitely think you should give it a try. Do you use a bullet journal? Have you thought of using a bullet journal? Let me know in the comments!

    1. I used the Erin Condren Lifeplanner for almost a year and I loved it. It was fun to decorate but I eventually stopped using the way it was meant to be used (for planning). I started bullet journaling at the beginning of May and I love it so far!
