Why It’s Okay to Take a Blogging Break
Why It’s Okay to Take a Blogging Break
Hey there! Blogging can be fun, but it can also be a lot of work, depending on what you want to do with your blog. Those that want to blog for a living have to do a lot more than just writing posts and sharing posts to social media. This kind of constant hustle can lead to creative burn out if you don’t properly take care of yourself. It’s important to take a blogging break every once in a while, otherwise, the burnout will come.
Many bloggers think they have to keep churning out content to grow their blog and start to make an income even if that means getting frustrated and putting out content that you’re not proud of. That is NOT what you should be doing. If that is where you’re at right now, I need you to stop for a second and take a break. Yes if you’re struggling to come up with original and engaging content then you need a break.
Why is taking a break looked down upon?
A lot of the time, taking a break is looked down upon. If you’re not hustling, then you’re not trying to be successful in your business. That’s just not true. But, hustle-culture is looked highly upon in the blogging community. If you’re not hustling your butt off, then you’re not going to succeed. This is what leads to:
- Blogger burnout
- Creative burnout in general
- Inconsistent posting
- Poor quality content
So, if not taking care of yourself leads to these poor qualities in a blogger/business owner, then why is taking a break so looked down upon? Because we don’t put taking care of ourselves on a high pedestal in today’s society. Mental health is not prioritized in today’s society, and it’s not something that is unique to the blogging community. That’s just the way that society views success right now, a lot of hustle, sleepless nights, and stress.

Taking a blogging break will help your business.
By taking a break, I’m not saying that you have to take a long hiatus from posting (like I did back in 2017). But, it’s worth taking a vacation, or even just a week off from posting and creating content, just something that is a blogging break. You need to take a break to recharge your creative juices. Just like it’s considered to be driving impaired when you’re extremely tired, you’re not going to be putting your best content out there when you’re running on empty consistently. Taking a break will allow you to
- Recharge your creative batteries
- Do something that makes you feel good about you
- Give yourself time to explore new ideas
- Allow you to refresh and clear your mind
There’s nothing wrong with admitting that you need a break. Just because you work for yourself doesn’t mean you need to hustle your creativity away. There’s a reason that when you have a regular 9-5 that you get mandated breaks. If you just keep going and going and going, the results are not going to be what you are looking for and that’s not good for business. It’s necessary to focus on yourself, especially when you’re running your own blog. You wear a lot of hats and you need to take care of yourself so you can do what you need to do.
