Why You Need Blue Light Blocking Glasses ASAP

Hey there! With the world at our fingertips, meaning on the internet, we spend a lot of time on our phones and on the computer. Whether you’re taking online classes or working on your online business, that’s a lot of blue light you’re subjecting your eyes to. The good news is, there’s something that can help you, blue light blocking glasses.

So, what is blue light?

Blue light is a color of light on the visible spectrum. It has a shorter wavelength, meaning that it produces a higher amount of energy. Because of the higher energy, it flickers more than warmer color light. Blue light can be natural or artificial. Natural blue light is just that, it appears naturally. It is how we see the sky as blue. Artificial blue light appears through digital screens (TVs, smartphone screens, computer screens, etc.).

Natural blue light is how our body distinguishes day from night. Natural blue light comes from the sun and tells our body that it’s day time. Artificial blue light comes from our digital screens, but at night can really throw our body for a loop.

The concern with Blue Light exposure

There has been some controversy as to whether blue light exposure does cause damage to your eyes. There have been some studies that suggest that exposure to blue light can cause eye strain, headaches, and eye fatigue during the day and it disrupts our body’s circadian rhythm at night. Over time, continuous exposure to blue light can cause permanent damage to your vision, including losing your vision altogether. Whether blue light can cause permanent damage to your eyes or not, blue light can definitely cause eye fatigue and headaches when looked at for long periods of time.

On the other hand, using our digital screens at night subject our eyes to more blue light than the natural blue light during the day. Using our digital devices before bed can cause us to throw off our circadian rhythm. It can cause you to have trouble falling asleep and in turn waking up in the morning because the blue light keeps you awake. That’s why it’s important to take steps to prevent blue light exposure, especially at night.

How to combat blue light exposure

There are a couple of different things you can do to help keep your eyes in shape and combat blue light exposure. One of the best things you can do if you have to look at a computer all day long is invest in blue light blocking glasses. (Or, if you already wear glasses, get blue light blocking technology in your lenses.)

Blue light blocking glasses do just that, help block the blue light wavelengths from reaching your retina. They can be clear lenses or have a yellow tint. The best thing about the advancement of blue light blocking technology is that you can have clear blue light blocking glasses. You don’t have to have a pair with a yellow tint, even though the warmer tint on the lenses will help block the blue light. I suggest getting a pair of yellow-tinted glasses to use before bed since that’s when you really want to avoid blue light. If you’re wanting to wear them in the office, then get a clear pair.

Do you already have glasses? When you get your next pair, ask about blue light blocking technology for your lenses. Depending on your prescription, you may be able to add that into your lenses. Since my full-time job is working on a computer, I definitely took that option when they offered it.
